Welcome to my new website

Many of us over 60 are counted out when part-time jobs come up despite our collective wisdom and abilities.

To counter some of this prejudice I have dispensed with sending my CV and have instead created The Complete Picture, an animated ninety second overview of my life to date @ https://vimeo.com/223960456.

The Red Sox won the World Series last night beating the Cardinals 6-1 and overall 4-2 in a best of seven. The World Series is so named because it was initially sponsored by The World newspaper.

This morning's Guardian: • If HS2 is so important to connect Manchester, Leeds and Birmingham, might it not be more appropriate to link these cities first? London doesn't need more trains or lines. The original HS2 was to be centred on linking to a hub at Heathrow, which still makes more sense. Derek Wyatt London

Short and Sweet note to the Clerk As a result of the failure to agree policy on Syria by both the UK Govt and its counterpart in America, hard power has failed as a foreign policy objective. We have some brilliant global soft power players - the British Council, BBC World Service, our great national museums and galleries and four or five world class universities. There is one area where there is a need for UKplc to take a bold step and we have an incredible legacy in the area...

James Hibbert who owns Dress2Kill is a font of ideas. He wants to help Walking with the Wounded and raise money for the charity. We raised over £200k for WtW in the summer by cycling from Melbourne to Sydney which we branded "Ride of the Lions".....and now we are going to do a soft launch for this Christmas by asking people to walk home from their business rather than take the bus/tube/train/car. More details shortly.

Joe McPartlin RIP "OURFC are very sad to announce the death of Joe McPartlin; he died peacefully in a nursing home following a long battle with illness. Joe came up to Oxford in 1959 from Wimbledon College to read geography at St Edmund Hall. In his first year he played for the Greyhounds but then went on to win three Blues, the final one in 1962 when he was Captain. Joe also appeared six times for Scotland in the Five Nations Championship whilst he was still at Oxford. On graduating he took

I sent this letter into The Guardian and hope it will be published tomorrow: Dear Sir In my advanced years I sometimes fail to see the train for the lines. If HS2 is so important to connect Manchester, Leeds and Birmingham might it not be more appropriate to link these cities first. London doesn't need more trains or lines. The original HS2 was to be centred on linking to a hub at Heathrow which still makes more sense. Yours aye Derek Wyatt The letter was mildly edited...

Yesterday, I visited Basingstoke RFC to meet some of their management team to chat about the Legacy plans we are developing for RWC 2015, to have lunch with Steve Tristram and Jim Darragh and watch them play Westcombe Park in London Three London & SE league. To date the visitors had won 2 from 6 with 12 points whereas the home side had also won 2 from 6 but had gained less bonus points. After the game Basingstoke had won 3 and lost 4! They walloped WP and gained a bonus point for good...

Late on Tuesday evening, I attended the Labour Party's 1000 Club event which examined in part the Romney v Obama narrative which was then compared to the Cameron v Miliband narrative where the latter's concerns about the cost of living has become centre stage. Romney was a dozen points ahead of Obama in the polls one year away from the Presidential elections but in the end was routed. The polls have the Tories and Labour sometimes close and sometimes with a lead for Labour with 19...

Happy Danes by Derek Wyatt  Denmark has been the go-to destination over the past 18 months.   This love-in with all things Danish started, unusually, because of three quite stunning dramas across our television screens. First up was The Killing starring Sofie Grabol as Detective Inspector Sarah Lund. This was followed by the brilliant Borgen starring Sidse Babett Knusden as the Danish PM which is now in its third series and finally by The Bridge where a cut up torso...

I travelled up to the University Church of St.Mary the Virgin in the High at Oxford for the memorial service for Sir Patrick Nairne GCB MC PC. Patrick had died earlier on 4th June aged 91.  There were several beautiful speeches from Sandy Nairne - a son and currently Director of the NPG, from Professor Sir Andrew Motion a lifelong friend and Lord Wilson of Dinton with some touching prayers by The Revd Charlie Cleverly (a Godson). The church was packed out and if I had one...

Dear Avaaz friends, In just 2 days’ time, African leaders could kill off a great institution, leaving the world a more dangerous place.  The International Criminal Court (ICC) is the world’s first and only global court to adjudicate crimes against hu manity. But leaders of Sudan and Kenya, who have inflicted terror and fear across their countries, are trying to drag Africa out of the ICC, allowing them the freedom to kill, rape, and inspire hatred without...

The polling on Fleet Street's stand on press regulation is not supported by the voters with about - depending on which one you examine - 75% against. The Press has acted disgracefully over the last decade culminating in the hacking of sensitive information from individuals. It is time their actions were legally restrained and that's what Parliament has voted for and that's what voters want.

Richmond were good in patches against a fine Doncaster XV yesterday. A lack of concentration just before the end of the first half when they could have gone in 9-7 lost them the initiative and ultimately the game. Doncaster were fitter and stronger in most departments except maybe in the front row. They will likely top the league in the Spring.  Richmond enjoying their second season in National Division 1 are finding the league tougher this season because the standard is...

We went to see MAAN last night; despite some serious reservations by the critics it was almost a full house and the play has been over 80% most nights. The main reason being Vanessa Redgrave and James Earl Jones's reprise of their starring roles in Driving Miss Daisy. . It was bravely directed by Mark Rylance but it didn't appeal to me.

The Privy Council was always going to turn down any attempt by the Press to regulate itself. The Press is not above the law. Television  and radio programmes have blossomed under regulation as will the Press. They have lived in the past for too long. The public deserves redress. As it is Parliament has passed a law and should now enact it.

Richmond notched their second consecutive win in National League Division 1 on Saturday by eventually beating Cinderford with some ease by 55-20. Richmond have lost to Esher, Rossyln Park and Coventry (by one point) and on this form will stay mid table in the league which without huge financial resources is about where we should be in - that is in the top 30 clubs in the country.

You would have thought that Fleet Street would have heard the noise and public concern about their appalling behaviour stretching back two decades. So why allow Trevor Kavanagh, of The Sun, to be their spokesperson?  MPs have voted to regulate the press and that is how democracy works.  It is time to regulate the press: no more, no less.
