Welcome to my new website

Many of us over 60 are counted out when part-time jobs come up despite our collective wisdom and abilities.

To counter some of this prejudice I have dispensed with sending my CV and have instead created The Complete Picture, an animated ninety second overview of my life to date @ https://vimeo.com/223960456.

We are coming to the end of 20th century politics. Consider. In America you have to raise from wealthy supporters at least $1 billion to fight the Presidential election. If you win, they are richly rewarded. Trump unlike any other president before him foreclosed on all Obama's appointments on the actual day of his coronation. Not the end of the week or the end of the month - to give him time to consider who he should appoint - but on the day. He cleansed the stable. Very rich men,...

Six Nations Challenges 2017    The six nations tournament is stuck. The same nations - usually Scotland and Italy - fight it out for the bottom of the table whilst any of the other four nations - Wales, Ireland, England and France - fight it out for pole position. It is likely to be Ireland or England's championship as both Wales and France are rebuilding. Scotland have lacked consistency. Now they must learn to win away from home if they are to progress. This season somehow...

Stop the World I Want to Get Off by Derek Wyatt (Published by KCWToday December 2016) I shall be glad to be welcoming in 2017 in Havana. I have just about had enough of 2016.  It started so well. England won the Six Nations after the most appalling display at the rugby world cup which they were hosting. Clearly, the English football team wanted to better that effort and duly lost to Iceland (the country not the retailer) at the Euros.  One way and another Europe has dominated the...

Christmas in Costa Rica: the country for all seasons We travelled to San Jose in Costa Rica by BA; the flight was delayed by 90 minutes as the fuel gauges did not match (the recent crash in Columbia was a thought but not spoken) so understandably we had to wait for them to be rectified.  The flight was packed and given it should have left at 0830 most people must have started out around 0200 or so to arrive at an already heaving Gatwick. Still it is such a better experience than...

Cuba: a rum place to visit by Derek Wyatt Flying to Cuba from the UK is becoming easier. Virgin flies direct and BA should be adding it to its services shortly. The Fidel Castro years are over and Raoul, his brother, is trying his best to modernise the country. There will be huge celebrations in 2019 when the country celebrates 60 years of the Marxist republic. Arriving in Cuba can be a trial.  You will need a special addition to your passport which will set you back £30 and can

Letter Published in The Guardian 08.12.16 Dear Sir All the huffing and puffing by the Premiership Rugby about their protocols regarding the assessment pitch-side of a player who might have been badly concussed amounts to a dereliction of duty.   Protocols are frankly worthless unless there has been an established baseline recorded on each player in the off-season. Rugby players, footballers, boxers, jockeys, polo players, bikers et al need to have their brain scanned. When a player...

The Living Years by the London Hospices Choir with Paul Carrack Just over a year ago, I began to plan for RTH to have a Number 1 record for Christmas 2016. It is that easy. James Hibbert, another one of my trustees, had had a go for another of his charities: Walking with the Wounded in November, 2015 but my sense was that these things needed a much longer lead in time.  For years I had loved Chris Rea's Driving Home for Christmas and hoped we might be able to record it. I tried hard to...
