Take the Tablet 05.03.12

I was at Oxford on Wednesday and I was asked if I wanted a wireless connection for my computer. "Computer" I said "what's that?" and we all laughed heartily knowing that tablets have almost made them redundant.

Amazon stole a march on everyone by creating the Kindle; Apple replied with a larger, heavier iPad (though the 2 is lighter) and everyone else has tried to keep up. HP brought out its own in the middle of last year and then dumped it more or less immediately (my son has mine and we have managed to successfully hack the Android system to add Apps to it).

This week Apple will unveil the iPad3 and there have been hints on the blogs that they might have a smaller one to rival the Kindle. Two years ago Apple did order 3 million "Kindle size" screens from a Taipei manufacturer so it will be interesting to see if they not only bring out an "iPad-lite" but stick a mobile connection inside!! Here's hoping.
